Can expired essential oils still be used?

Because like a certain effect of some kind of essential oil and buy, after using a few times put aside, as time passes expired, like store goods to buy a few bottles, have not finished, shelf life has passed. Can expired essential oil still be used? Do you have the same question?

In general, 100% pure essential oils can be stored for several years, such as wood and resin essential oils such as sandalwood essential oil and frankincense essential oil, just like wine, the older the better, but pay attention to the problem of oxidation, opening time should not be too long, and should be stored away from light. However, there are also essential oils that can not be stored for a long time, such as citrus bergamot, sweet orange, lemon and so on. If opened, it is best to use up early, and the shelf life is only two years. Most essential oils have a shelf life of 3-5 years.

After expiration of the single essential oil should not be used on the skin, after the shelf life is not too long, if the smell does not change much compared to the original, then you can try to use incense, or household daily, such as washing cloth, mop the floor when dropping a few drops, or washing the toilet can also be used. Because essential oil has just passed shelf life does not represent complete metamorphism, only effective component part volatilizes, did not have originally so good, a few open longer essential oil also can be used so. However, if the expiration date is too long, the smell is not as good as before, indicating that the essential oil composition has oxidized and deteriorated, so the unilateral essential oil should not be used again.

Compound essential oil is generally mixed with base oil, can be used directly on the skin. Compound essential oil is generally used to massage the skin, face, body, etc., because base oil is very easy to rancidity, so do not use compound essential oil after expiration, in order to avoid causing damage to the skin. Therefore, when we deploy compound essential oil, do not mix too much at a time, according to their own dosage, a bottle of compound essential oil had better be used within half a year.

In order to prevent the waste caused by the expiration of the essential oil, do not buy too much when choosing the essential oil. One bottle of the same single essential oil is enough, because the amount of single essential oil is very small each time, a bottle of 10ml single essential oil can drop 200 drops, which can be used for a long time. There are also to consider their own situation before buying essential oil, such as ready to be pregnant, do not buy pregnant women can not use the essential oil, commonly used lavender essential oil, rose essential oil pregnant women are not allowed to use.
