What is the future development of plastic and glass packaging, the two main forms of cosmetic bottle packaging?
Generally speaking, the texture of cosmetics can be divided into solid granular (powder), liquid and lotion cosmetics and cream cosmetics, which makes bottle packaging widely used in cosmetics packaging. At the same time, cosmetics themselves do not have a distinctive appearance. Only through exquisite packaging design can they show their own characteristics.
As far as the current situation is concerned, plastic bottle packaging has significant advantages. It is light and cheap, and can be made into a variety of sizes, transparent and opaque. At the same time, the printing performance of plastic bottle packaging is very good, and the instructions, logos and barcodes can be directly printed on the container surface by means of heat transfer, ink-jet, printing and other methods. In recent years, the rapid development of PET resin in the application of cosmetic containers has led to a major change in replacing glass bottles with plastics. Plastic products have occupied more than 80% of the packaging market of cosmetics and become the main packaging container of cosmetics.
Compared with the proportion of plastic, the proportion of glass bottle packaging in cosmetics packaging is relatively small, not more than 8%. Glass still has irreplaceable advantages in this field. In the short term, it is still the material of cosmetics, and the reasons for this situation are as follows.
First, the quality of glass bottle packaging is better than that of plastic bottle. Elegance is the charm of glass bottles, which can be made into frosted or transparent. At the same time, the sense of thickness of glass bottles can double the trust of consumers and improve the quality of cosmetics, which is impossible for plastic packaging. At present, most perfume is packaged in glass bottles. For example, the packaging design of women’s perfume inherits the tradition. The streamlined frosted glass bottle highlights its simple lines. The bottle body is soft emerald green, conveying the characteristics of freshness, elegance and friendliness.
Second, the glass bottle packaging has good sealing performance. For some cosmetics with nutritional effects, they contain a lot of nutrients just like food, but they are very easy to be oxidized, which requires their packaging to have good sealing to block the impact of oxygen on these cosmetics. In addition, volatile perfume also has high requirements for the high barrier property of packaging. Glass bottle has strong barrier property, and is undoubtedly more competent than plastic bottle in protecting contents. Therefore, some cosmetics taking the route still use glass bottles as packaging.
At present, plastic bottle packaging has a large share in cosmetics packaging and is widely used, but glass bottle packaging also has its irreplacea advantages. Glass based cosmetic packaging should still take the route in the future, while increasing its scientific and technological content.
