Protect Ourselves Against COVID-19

Protect Ourselves Against COVID-19

2020 is not a good year for all people around the world because of the COVID-19 corona virus. Many people lost their families for it. Thanks for Chinese government, the situation is on good control gradually. However, as winter comes, the virus comes out here or there recently. It becomes serious again. We should not slacken our efforts to prevent the epidemic. We can take action to protect ourselves and our family from contracting the infection in daily life. Simple things like staying home whenever possible, avoiding sick people, washing hands often, and disinfecting high-touch surfaces can help us stay well.

1. Stay away from people who are coughing, sneezing or running a fever. Since COVID-19 is a contagious infection, coughing and sneezing and running a fever are common symptoms. Especially, coughing and sneezing both release the virus into the air, so they may increase our risk of infection. Keep distance from people who have these symptoms.

2. Wash our hands with soap and water to minimize our infection risk. Wet our hands and use a mild soap. Work the soap into a lather for about 30 seconds, then rinse our hands clean under warm running water. Always wash our hands before eat or drink is a good way to prevent COVID-19. It’s also best to wash our hands anytime we’re out in public or after we’re around someone who may be sick. If we can’t wash our hands, we could use a hand sanitizer that contains 60-95% alcohol.

3. Don’t shake hands with people like before, whether they show symptoms or not. People who are infected with COVID-19 may spread the illness even if they don’t have symptoms. Limit our contact with others just in case, which is good both for ourselves or others.

4. Keep disinfecting every day. The virus can linger on surfaces, such as doorknobs, faucets. Use a spray disinfectant or bleach wipes to clean these surfaces daily. Make sure the surface stays wet for about 10 minutes so it effectively kills the virus. This limits the risk of the virus staying on the surfaces and potentially causing an infection.

5. Avoid bad information and unconfirmed rumors about corona virus. Myths about COVID-19 have spread on social media, sometimes causing unnecessary fear. Only believe the government’s factual reports and don’t help to spread rumors.

Hope we can overcome the virus in 2021.
